This is the Time to Avoid the Flu

Avoiding the a cold or the flu during the winter season is difficult, especially in the office. Your chances of getting sick in the winter increases due to more hardy and resistant germs and our choice to spend more time in stifled, indoor air. Luckily, with every flu season that arises, there are ways to save yourself from the inconvenience of the flu and cold holiday season.

Nutrition Is Your Best Friend

One of the first steps in the prevention process is making sure you eat well by giving your body the vitamins it needs to support a strong immune system. This includes eating a diet that includes citrus fruit, fish, garlic, sweet potatoes, leafy greens, and bell peppers. For a vitamin boost to your body, consider supplementing vitamins C, D, and Zinc. These immune boosting vitamins can protect your body from the germs around you, and reduce the symptoms of your cold if it does arise.

Move Your Body

Exercise is a crucial component to the overall well-being and health of your body. Some leading experts even claim that your body can not be truly healthy without it, and that it is one of the best ailment prevention techniques available. Making exercise a routine can prevent many ailments in the future like a stroke, and this season you can prevent yourself from getting the cold or flu. Exercise increases circulation and blood flow within the body and in your immune system. This immune system boost has shown that it can reduce the number of cold and flu cases each year by a 10%.

Office Hygiene Tips

By maintaining a clean work area and hands you can ward off multiple interactions with germs and bacteria that can cause those unruly sniffles and sneezes of the season. Do this by washing your hands for at least 20 seconds; be sure to clean your wrists and under your nails to kill any of those hidden germs. Due to the lack of consistent cleaning, keyboards typically are more germy than toilets. Protect yourself from these hidden inflictors by cleaning your desk, keyboard, and mouse with antibacterial wipes.

There are many others methods for making sure that you don’t catch the office flu, including staying hydrated, reducing stress, reducing alcohol and sugar consumption, and maintaining your eight hours of sleep each night.
